FIELD TRIP 02

THE FOURTH DECADENAL FIELD TRIP

HELD ON SATURDAY, AUGUST 24, 2002

Before he died, Ken Kesey was already planning Field Trip 02. We'd done one ever ten years since 1972. So it seemed to continue on with the plan was the natural thing to do. As the year went on the plan went through about seventeen hundred changes. The Springfield Creamery would do the Field Trip if the Grateful Dead would play. Well, the Grateful Dead wasn't going to play anywhere but then what you know, they decided to play at Alpine Valley in Wisconsin. That opened the door for them to play at the Field Trip. But, alas, they wouldn't. So to hell with it. But at the last moment Zane Kesey told John Swan, "Have it at your house and call it a party. That's better than no field trip at all."

John Swan went for it. The snowball was rolling and the snow was packing to it like feathers on a tar baby. Swan got worried. It was getting too big. He decided to rent Elijah Bristow State Park, just down the street from his house. Everything was all set until the day before the field trip when everything went kazooey, bellyup. What to do, what to do, what to do? The outlook was decidedly blue.

RANGER IS TEARING OUT HIS HAIR!

The park ranger pulled the plug! He heard the Grateful Dead was playing and a crowd of 40,000 was expected. Thousands have already descended upon the park and the toilets are spilling over. The National Greed has been called out and the dozens of cars blocking the road to the park have been ground down and sold to North Korea. Our esteemed leader has taken to the air and besmirched everyone's reputation.

WHAT? ME WORRRY?

So we are moving back to John Swan's yard. So there's plenty of room. So we'll stack vertically, three or four high, on each other's shoulders. So we'll park at the Trent school up the street. So we'll be considerate of the neighbors. So we won't dump trash in their yards, hassle their dogs and chickens. So what there's no camping. So we'll go to Dexter Shores in Dexter and camp. So, we can't bring our dogs. So what? So we show the Sunshine Daydream movie again. So we don't show the movie. So what? Me worry?

DIRECTIONS:
Take I-5 South of Eugene
Take Hwy 58 East towards Kalamath Falls
Go aprox 8 miles to the flashing yellow light
marked Rattlesnake Rd
Go left on Rattlesnake Road. Turn right at stop sign on Wheeler Rd and park at the school. Walk or ride the shuttle to Swan's.

Some stuff you'all might need to bring:
your own food and beverage
fire extinguishers (you can never have too many)
water and flashlights
blankets or lawn chairs
think of this as a picnic and bring what cha wanna.

WE ARE INVOKING THE SPIRITS

******

Spirits abound. They are on the very earth where we kneel. We call upon the spirits to rise up and join FieldTrip2002. We invoke the spirits to add their blessing to this event. We fling the Ching to the spirits. The Ching counsels: In the middle of the earth is water: the image of the Army. thus the superior man increases his masses by generosity to the people. The Army needs perserverance and a strong man. Good fortune without blame.

OHMYGOSH, HERE COMES SKYPILOT!
FIRST ONE TO THE SITE!

Here's the original ticket from the '72 Field Trip held in Veneta, Oregon, sent in by Skypilotclub member, Jack Whipple. Thirty years young. The ticket that is.
